Terms of Service

Last updated: May 2026

ShotText is operated by Northern Story ("Northern Story", "we", "us"), based in Nunavut, Canada. These Terms govern your access to and use of ShotText (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms.

1. The Service

ShotText turns screenshots into searchable text using OCR and AI summaries, classifies them into shelves, and keeps a private library of captures tied to your account.

2. Your account

You must be of legal age in your jurisdiction (or have authority to bind the organization you represent). You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials and for all activity under your account. Provide accurate information and keep it up to date.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

We may remove content, restrict outputs, suspend accounts, or refuse service for violations of this section.

4. AI features and accuracy

ShotText uses third-party AI models to extract and summarize text and to classify content. Outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, biased, or offensive, and should not be relied on for legal, medical, financial, safety, or other professional decisions without independent verification. You are responsible for your inputs (including ensuring you have the rights to them), for reviewing outputs before acting on them, and for how you use those outputs. If you are a rights-holder and believe content in ShotText infringes your rights, email info@northernstory.com with details and we will investigate and, where appropriate, remove the content and terminate repeat infringers.

5. Intellectual property

Northern Story retains all rights in the Service, including its software, design, and branding. You retain ownership of the content you upload; you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, process, transmit, and display it solely to provide the Service to you. We claim no rights to the text or summaries derived from your screenshots.

6. Payments and subscriptions

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. Payment, billing, taxes, and refund mechanics are governed by Paddle's Buyer Terms. Subscriptions renew automatically at the then-current price until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from Account → Manage subscription and retain access until the end of your current billing period. See our Refund Policy.

7. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access for material breach of these Terms, non-payment, suspected fraud, security risk, repeated policy violations, or where required by law. You may stop using the Service at any time. On termination, your data may be deleted after a reasonable export window (typically 30 days).

8. Warranties and liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service is capped at the fees you paid to us (via Paddle) for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud, gross negligence, or personal injury.

9. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold Northern Story harmless from claims arising out of your content, your use of the Service in breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.

10. Changes

We may update these Terms; material changes will be announced via the Service or by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

11. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Nunavut and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The courts located in Nunavut, Canada have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this clause does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer-law rules of your country of residence.

12. Miscellaneous

You may not assign these Terms without our written consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. If any provision is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. Neither party is liable for delays caused by events beyond its reasonable control (force majeure).
